Many ideas and thoughts, if not most of them, are of a foundation of what the Greeks had contributed. Aristotle’s findings on the syllogisms continue to question thinkers of yesterday on their argument, only to find that everything has to be defined by axioms and assumptions. Surely, ideas today are more defined, comprehensive and better understood.
It just pains to wonder why, how Ayn Rand’s theory of Objectivism (not to be confused with objectification) remains well received when, in theory, is parallel to Stoicism, as well as other school of thoughts in Logic and Reason. Have not the Ancient Greeks discussed about that? Have not the Enlightenment Era advocated time and time again? I remember Economics 101 postulates how each person is rational and will act in their own interest. That was seen to be an imperative, not an assumption, because it is unanimous that one if following his/her instincts, will be self-interested.
Maybe because we can only talk to people who are living and not to texts. Maybe because thinkers today apply to the context today and thus the relevance. Maybe it’s plain sensationalism and readership. Maybe it’s all about marketing and publishing firms.
Okay, time for Capote.
There are some sensations you encounter in the past you want to re-create badly. The afferents running through your immaculate sensory medium.

Man, I see in fight club the strongest and smartest men who’ve ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don’t need. We’re the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War’s a spiritual war… our Great Depression is our lives. We’ve all been raised on television to believe that one day we’d all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won’t. And we’re slowly learning that fact. And we’re very, very pissed off.

He spoke for us – alienation, zombie nation, total enslavement by the corporations.
